About plant names...

Schott’s yucca, named for its discoverer, German-born naturalist Arthur Carl Victor Schott, is a native of North America. Schott discovered it in 1855. This species is commonly cultivated.

Identification: This yucca is larger than most, a tree up to 20' (6.1 m) high, branched up to 6' (1.8 m) high. Leaves are 18-36" (45-91 cm) long, blue- or gray-green, stiff, smooth, and swordlike. They lack filaments on the leaf margins, distinguishing this species from Yucca schidigera. Flowers are white or cream-colored, up to 1¾" (5 cm) long. Each flower has 3 petals and 3 sepals.

See the Yucca page for a comparison with other yuccas.
