Musa ‘Dwarf Namwah’
Dwarf namwah banana, Pisang Awak
This well-known banana cultivar is also known as pisang awak. It is typically grown as an ornamental, though its fruit is edible.
Plants: This dwarf banana tree cultivar reaches 6–9′ (1.8–2.7 m) in height. The trunk is reddish pink.
Leaves: Enormous oval leaves are semi-evergreen.
Flowers: Flowers are bright yellow, appearing in the spring and summer.
Fruits: Bananas appear to be about half the size of Cavendish bananas, 4–5″ (10–12 cm) long.
Habitats: Tropical, mesic.
Edibility: Produces lots of small sweet bananas, said by at least one enthusiastic marketer to have “spectacular flavor and creamy texture.”
