Macraea, romerillo, needle-leafed daisy
Macraea is native to the Galápagos Islands.
Plants: Shrubs are 6½–9½′ (2–3 m) tall, and multiply branched.
Leaves: Opposite or in small clusters. Leaves are linear, simple, ½–1¾″ long ⨉ 1/16–⅛″ wide (1.5–5 cm ⨉ 2–3 mm).
Flowers: Nearly spherical heads ⅛–⅜″ (6–12 mm) across contain composite flowers with numerous yellow disc flowers, resembling tiny yellow land mines. Sometimes ray flowers are present as well, colored light yellow. Flowers have purple pedicels 1½–2″ (4–6 cm) long.
Fruits: Achenes are 1/16–⅛″ (2–4.5 mm) long, winged, with small projections. Each achene contains one seed.
Habitats: Arid lowlands and moist uplands.
